e-learning Skype is a free piece of software which allows you to use your computer to make and receive phone calls all over the world - for free. The educational uses are  numerous and exciting!

Thinking of introducing projects with other schools around the world? Here is an exciting resource to allow you to communicate with other schools around the world!

The person who you are talking to needs to have Skype installed on their computer as well. It is possible to call 'normal' telephone numbers using Skype, but this is a paid for service called SkypeOut.

To use Skype you will need the following:

1. A computer connected to the Internet running Windows XP, Windows 2000, Mac OSX 10.3 (Panther), Linux or Windows PocketPC 2003

2 A connection to the internet - broadband is better, but ISDN & dial-up  should also work, but with reduced quality

3. A microphone and speakers connected to your computer or a headset  connected to your computer - or you can use one of the Skype-compatible phones

4. A Skype username  (  See: Registering a Skype Name)

5. Someone else to talk to!
