The person who you are talking to needs to have Skype installed on their computer as well. It is possible to call 'normal' telephone numbers using Skype, but this is a paid for service called SkypeOut.
To use Skype you will need the following: 1. A computer connected to the Internet running Windows XP, Windows 2000, Mac OSX 10.3 (Panther), Linux or Windows PocketPC 2003
2 A connection to the internet - broadband is better, but ISDN & dial-up should also work, but with reduced quality
3. A microphone and speakers connected to your computer or a headset connected to your computer - or you can use one of the Skype-compatible phones
4. A Skype username ( See: Registering a Skype Name)
5. Someone else to talk to!
